Below are common questions students may have when their instructor has to temporarily move a class online, and resources for how to learn online.
Before getting started with Blackboard, Northeastern’s online learning management platform, be sure to check whether you have a supported browser, an internal or external microphone, and optional camera.
How do I access my class online?
Blackboard is the learning management platform that faculty use to teach online. Students can access Blackboard at northeastern.blackboard.com. Blackboard also has a mobile app that can be used to access a class, though functionality may be limited.
Where can I find my class in Blackboard?
Navigate to the courses tab in Blackboard to find the classes in which you’re enrolled.
How do I communicate with my instructor and my classmates?
Using Blackboard, send emails to your instructor or to your classmates without needing to switch to an email provider (such as Gmail or Outlook).
How do I find lecture materials?
Instructors organize course materials in different ways, so you should ask your instructor where this information can be found. Some instructors may use Panopto to record and share lectures, which can be found in the course or on the Panopto mobile app.
How do I post in discussion boards and reply to classmates?
Meet with peers, pose questions, or demonstrate your understanding of course material in your Blackboard course discussion board. Consider drafting posts and other long-form online content in Microsoft Word or other word processing application.
How can I find assignments and when they’re due?
Instructors can add assignments to different areas of your course. You might access assignments from a link on the course menu called “Assignments”. Or, your instructor might incorporate assignments into each week’s content. Assignments can then be submitted through Blackboard.
How do I take a quiz?
Instructors may assign a quiz or a test for students to take in Blackboard.
Where do I get help for Blackboard?
The Support and Services tab in Blackboard provides different support options and resources. The IT Service Desk is also available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and can help answer your Blackboard questions.
Where do I access tools in Blackboard?
Navigate to tools in the Blackboard course menu to send email and more!
Where do I access my grades and any feedback from faculty?
Find grades and other feedback from your instructor in Blackboard.
What library resources are available online?
